Gold-winning York St John University helped the RFCA for Yorkshire and the Humber notch up a record-breaking year of support for the military in 2020/21.
Pictured after winning Gold under the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) are university vice-chancellor Karen Bryan with aspiring army reservist Simon Kumar who is also a lecturer in physical education and youth sport.
More than 150 organisations in the region signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant pledging fair treatment of the military during the year – a big increase on previous years.
In addition, the region achieved 18 Silver and eight Gold Award winners under the ERS scheme – it’s best performance ever.
Support for the military
“The year was challenging in so many ways for so many different people, but when it came to supporting the military, Yorkshire and the Humber really did come up trumps,” said RFCA employer engagement director Richard Lenton.
“It just goes to show the appreciation that is felt in this region for all that the military do – be it supporting the Covid-19 effort, helping communities when flooding hits or going on overseas deployments.
“We don’t take that support for granted and the RFCA is here to support businesses of all sizes in their journey towards becoming truly forces-friendly organisations.”
